Springton Township’ 150th Anniversary Celebrations

In October 2014 the community of Springon celebrated the 150th Anniversary of the first offering of a subdivision of approximately 300 allotments which comprised the Township of Springton, also called “New Springton”, which took place on 28 October 1864.

The notice of the sale said that the blocks were to be offered for auction by Charles Tidemann “on the ground adjoining Mr Lutzow’s Store, which was shown as Lot 42 on the corner of Williamstown Road and Angas Street".

There had been settlement before this but no township as we know it today.
